What is a Quantum Leap?
Quantum Leap = A sudden, very noticeable and significant advance.
I’ve been reading a book called “you2: A High-Velocity Formula for Multiplying Your Personal Effectiveness in Quantum Leaps” This book outlines a way of thinking that can provide you enough momentum for a quantum leap in your life. The premise is essentially to think differently.
Not only does the author spell out truth, he also provides an easy to understand example for us:
“There’s a small fly burning out the last of its short life’s energies in a futile attempt to fly through the glass of the windowpane. The whining wings tell the poignant story of the fly’s strategy – try harder. But, it’s not working…across the room, ten steps away, the door is open. Ten seconds of flying time and this small creature could reach the outside world it seeks…Sometimes, in fact, [trying harder] is a big part of the problem” you2, Price Pritchett, PH.D.

Sometimes trying harder is the problem.
The truth is that progress can not only be made linearly or exponentially but it can also be done via a quantum leap. The simple answer of moving a few feet to the left or right, start doing something different, or stopping something altogether is what enables the quantum leap to occur.
Often times I’ve felt that the progress I’ve made occurs at first linearly, then exponentially as I remain consistent in my effort. However, very rarely have I experienced a quantum leap in my life, until recently. You see, sometimes a quantum leap comes when you least expect it. One day you find yourself bored with life, and the next day find yourself at the deep end of a never-ending pool of controversy, hardship, and stress. But, regardless of the process, a quantum leap has occurred.
A quantum leap is like taking a step into a new world. Or like leaving the world for a time only to come back into it with a new understanding and perspective. It can be quite the shock once you return as it seems like you stepped back into the Matrix realizing that most people run on established programs. My question these days is that even though we have free will to do anything we choose, how free are we really? Most of our lives are lived through technology and our digital lives. Have you ever seen so many people glued to their phones before? Not only this, but have you noticed that we are all taking about the same subjects, remain in the same camps, and have established patterns of checking our phones constantly? We have become the Borg in some sense but still remain ourselves, for now.
To allow space for a quantum leap to occur, we have to step outside of this reality we’ve created for ourselves. How much power could you have over your struggles if you could simply see them as if you were peering into a cardboard box? Instead of being inside the box, you now have a perspective shift, realizing that the items inside the box are small, and really do not matter on the greater scale as you are now aware that there are items outside of the box that you were not aware of previously.
For example, I now tend to see hot topics like politics, religion, and news cycles as simply items in a cardboard box. Yes, they are big when they remain in the box with us. However, they are dwarfed and become insignificant with the right perspective. As it stands, the right perspective is determined by coming outside of the box. This takes courage and sacrifice, but in the end, it is worth it. If you find yourself stuck in life, I suggest you take yourself out of the box you find yourself in.
For the chess players among us, you understand that trying harder is usually not the solution. The solution lies in your vision of the board and how many steps forward you can think. Simply taking over as many pieces as you can leaves you blind to the fact that the objective of the game is to capture the king. Checkmate can both happen in two moves, or in two hundred – strategy is paramount.
I find that the existence of a quantum leap is hard to grasp. I understand the concept and how it plays out in reality, but it challenges me to think through everything I’ve committed to once again and to determine the best path forward. Is it wise to try harder on one thing or is it better not to try at all? Not trying can be more beneficial than trying hard, especially when you factor in concepts like opportunity cost, logical fallacies, and immovable objects. So, what is someone to do when they find themselves at this point? I for one welcome a quantum leap, but I must trust the process, no matter the cost.
I believe that God gives you a quantum leap when you are ready. If I were to be in any other position than where I’m at right now, I would have caved in the opportunities that have now come my way. I certainly did not pray for this, but I find that the clues were already given to me, I just had to notice them and notice I did. So, I’m excited about what’s happening and what the future holds. And as always, I share what’s happening to me and share what I am doing for your benefit, not mine. I hope that my words help someone, and I think to some degree it is helping, even if it’s for a little bit.
